PROGRAMMING FAQS
Does my child need clubs?
No! Clubs can be made available for your child, however, we kindly ask that you request clubs through your coach in advance of the start of your program session. Please include whether you need R or L and your child’s age and height.
Does First Tee provide financial aid?
We offer financial aid (up to 100% of program registration costs) for those who need it. Parents/guardians can apply for financial aid during the registration checkout process. To apply, add the desired class to your cart and proceed with checking out. Please select the check box for “yes” when prompted if you would like to apply for financial aid. You will be asked for the following information: household income, number of people in household, whether you qualify for free/reduced lunch, and how much you are able to pay (if anything.) We do not require any documentation. We never want registration fees to be a barrier to participation for a child. (http://firstteegreaterchicago.org/register)
What is the refund policy?
- Payment must be made before the first day of class.
- No refunds will be given, however in certain cases credits may be issued for future registration. Refunds will be honored if First Tee has to cancel a class series for any reason. It is our goal to continue to provide quality programming at an accessible price point, and this policy enables us to do that.
- Make-up days are reserved for cancelled classes only.
Can my child’s sibling join the class even if they are a year or two younger or older?
Our class curriculum is thoughtfully designed with age appropriate lessons and activities in mind. Due to safety concerns, we discourage younger siblings from joining the class.
What do you do if there is inclement weather? Are there makeup classes?
Class cancellations will be communicated via text and email to parents at least 3 hours before the start of class time. Where possible, we provide makeup classes for rain out days.
Where do you offer programming? Is there a program site near me?
We offer programming locations on the North and South side of Chicago and in a few suburban locations. CLICK HERE to view our most current program locations.
Does my child have to be an experienced player to register for First Tee?
No, First Tee is a great introduction to golf for beginners and our trained coaches will help your child advance through the program learning life skills and golf skills along the way.
Can I register my child for more than one session?
Yes, absolutely.
Will my child have a chance to play on the course?
We provide on course playing opportunities for youth participants however, it will depend on their skill level and knowledge of golf rules.
How does my child advance through the program?
Advancement through the program will reflect mastery of skill by level, rules of golf, and embracing First Tee’s Five Key Commitments both on and off the course. First Tee trained lead coaches conduct evaluations on site and thoughtfully adjust program curriculum to the level of your child’s abilities.
How does my child benefit in the first tee if he/she is an advanced player?
Players of all levels, including advanced players, can benefit greatly from being a First Tee – Greater Chicago participant. First Tee provides access to numerous local and national leadership and playing opportunities outside of regular programming for our participants. These opportunities are available to kids who are current participants, have demonstrated appropriate golf skills and etiquette, and who embrace the First Tee’s Five Key Commitments.
