August Game Changer Spotlight: Jose Lemus

Jose Lemus was first introduced to golf through First Tee – Greater Chicago’s School Program at his elementary school, Cesar Chavez, located in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. Soon after, he picked up caddying and commuted over an hour each way from his home in Back of the Yards to Briarwood Country Club in Deerfield, IL.

Jose attended Marist High School on scholarship and caddied regularly, which ultimately led to him receiving the prestigious Evans Scholarship to attend the University of Illinois. He aspires to pursue a career in engineering with a focus on automotive technology, along with a minor in real estate.

“First Tee has opened doors I never knew existed. It taught me life lessons and earned me the Evans Scholarship, allowing me to attend my top-choice university. Now, I’m excited to make the most of these opportunities.”

Learning golf gave Jose a new perspective on the opportunities available to him, helping him set and achieve ambitious goals. He attributes his success in obtaining life-changing scholarships to the life lessons that First Tee – Greater Chicago taught him. We are so proud of Jose!
