April Game Changer Spotlight: Elijah Royal

Elijah Royal embarked on his First Tee journey at the age of 7, absorbing crucial lessons in perseverance and confidence. Surrounded by supportive role models, he felt compelled to give back, eventually assuming the role of lead coach.

Reflecting on his transition from participant to alumni to eventually Lead Coach at our Harborside Youth Learning Center, Elijah attributes it to the profound relationships nurtured within the program. He fondly remembers how coaches prioritized personal connections, creating an inclusive environment where everyone felt valued.

“The sense of connection among staff, junior coaches, and participants is what kept drawing me back.”

Beyond golf, First Tee instilled in Elijah a robust work ethic and self-assurance. Recognizing the impact of positive mentorship, he is dedicated to offering similar guidance to others who may lack such support.

Looking forward, Elijah believes that fostering strong relationships is vital to retaining participants within First Tee. His journey within the program has opened doors to remarkable experiences, such as attending the Ryder Cup and playing alongside Rory McIlroy in the Wells Fargo Championship Pro-Am.

These opportunities validate Elijah’s dedication and underscore the profound impact of programs like First Tee in shaping young lives.
